What are we doing now? Peru Fundraising Kickoff!

I am so excited to post about what has been going on in our lives lately! When we got back from Peru at the end of July, we jumped right into a whirlwind of moving, job searching, and preparing to start school! Not to mention spending time with friends and family that we hadn't seen in a few months! It seems like the month of August passed us by in the blink of an eye but it was a really wonderful blink!

The next 4 months (which will be our last 4 months in the United States) will be spent serving in our local church and on our campus and fundraising for Peru!

Chris and I work with Awaken College Ministry in Statesboro, Georgia. We met at Cross Roads Community Church in 2010 and shortly afterward, Alison Lusted (who is also the founder of our mission organization, Crosspoint Missions) started a college ministry at our church. Since then, we have completely dedicated ourselves to pour into our community and our campus through outreach programs and ministry events. With Awaken, we have gone out on missions to the communities in Statesboro, bringing live music, food, and the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of our community, which is what we do in Peru as well! We love serving in local missions and it is our passion to see people come to know Jesus and enter into a real relationship with him! This is our third semester on leadership with Awaken and we love reaching out to college students and promoting discipleship and unity with other Christian organizations at Georgia Southern University. We celebrated the new semester's kickoff night with Awaken on August 22nd and we are super excited about what is going to happen this semester with this awesome group of students!

Chris is working at Georgia Southern in the electrical access department and I am going to school full time! We are both jumping head first into fundraising for Peru and we are so excited to start connecting with our support team and sharing at local churches about missions!

In January, we will be working with NewLife Christian Missionary Church in Lima, Peru to start a ministry for children on the streets. There are thousands of children living on the streets of Lima, fighting to survive by stealing and digging through the trash for scraps of food. Heartbreakingly, girls are sold on the streets at as young as 10 and 11 years old for what we would consider to be pocket change. There is an incredible need for food, shelter, clothing, and education for these children. We believe that Jesus has a plan for each child and that every single child deserves to be loved, fed, educated, and cared for. Through street dramas, evangelism, and basic provision, we plan to do just that!

Our passion is to care for orphans and to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is our greatest joy to work in the mission field, bringing God's love to the poorest of the poor and providing for their needs in practical ways, however we cannot do it alone! We need your help!  We will be spending the next 4 months raising a support team of people who share this passion with us and want to see lives changed in Peru. If you are interested in being a part of this support team in any way, whether by financial contribution, prayer, or donating supplies, please email me at sandyellynhunt@gmail.com. Together, we can change lives!
